Prepare English for SSC CGL – Important Points to Remember

Plan strategically and follow the below tips:

  • Make reading a habit: Read magazines and newspapers to improve your reading habits.

  • Learn at least 10 new words and their meanings daily.

  • Try to solve at least 1 previous year question paper everyday.

SSC CGL Tier 1 ENGLISH – Previous Year Papers

SSC CGL exam is a standardized test for securing jobs in government organizations.

It is conducted once in a year.

Through SSC CGL exam, a candidate is selected for various Group-‘B’ and Group-‘C’ posts under several ministries, departments, and organizations of the Government of India.  

It is one of the most awaited exams among graduates & post-graduates.

It is estimated that there are 1.5 million annual test takers including graduates & post-graduates from various disciplines. Now, you can image the level of competition.

Hence, SSC CGL preparation requires a detailed study and sufficient time to practice all the relevant subjects.  The examination has four tiers conducted on different days with results posted after each tier.

The detail of four tiers for the SSC CGL exam is given below

Tier-I (Preliminary Exam): The Tier-I exam comprised of 4 sections namely- General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Awareness, English Language & Comprehension, and Quantitative Aptitude. In this test, all questions will be asked in MCQ format and the exam will be conducted in online mode. In this tier, General Awareness section will have 25 questions for 50 marks.

Tier-II (Mains Exam): In this tier, exam will be conducted in online mode comprising the following subjects-

  • Quantitative Aptitude

  • English Language & Comprehension

  • Statistics – It is only JSO post.

  • General Studies (Finance & Accounting and Economics & Governance) – It is only for the candidates, who have opted for the post of Assistant Audit Officer.

– Tier-III (Descriptive Exam): This is a pen-paper mode exam in which you are asked to do writing in the form of essay writing, letter writing, and application writing.

Tier-IV (Data Entry Test / Computer Proficiency test)

From the above information, you can see that GA questions will be asked only in Tier-I exam. GA section is very important part of this exam and contains easy questions. If you know the answers, then you can gain very good marks without any doubt and without wasting time in the SSC CGL Tier-I exam.
